Dialogs of Jesus from the gospels:
note: a work still in progress
apostle - to bear witness
Mat. 5: 11 - 12 | Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so men persecuted the prophets who were before you. |
Mat. 5: 13 | You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how shall it's saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trodden under the foot by men. |
Mat. 5: 14 - 16 | You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill that cannot be hid. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a basket but on a stand that it may give light to the house. Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. |
Mark 9: 1 | There are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God come with power. |
piety - alms, prayer and fasting
Mat. 6: 1 | Beware of practicing your piety before men in order to be seen by them; for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. |
Mat. 6: 3 - 4 | When you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your alms may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. |
Mat. 6: 6 | When you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. |
Mat. 6: 17 - 18 | When you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, that your fasting may not be seen by men but by your Father who sees in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. |
Mat. 5: 23 - 24 | if you are offering your gift at the alter, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the alter and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. |
Mark 11: 25 - 26 | whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone; so that your Father, who is in heaven, may also forgive you your trespasses |
Mark 12: 41 - 44 | He watched the multitude putting money into the treasury ... many rich people put in large sums ... a poor widow came and put in two copper coins which make a penny ... and He said: this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the treasury ... for they contributed out of their abundance ... she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, her whole living. |
law + prophets
Mat. 6: 14 - 15 | If you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father also will forgive you; but if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. |
Mat. 7: 1 - 2 | Judge not, that you not be judged. For with the judgment which you pronounce you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get. |
Mat. 7: 12 | Whatever you wish that men would do to you, do so to them; for this is the law and the prophets |
Mat.22: 38 - 40 | You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. The second is like it, you shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the law and prophets. |
church
Mat. 20: 26 - 28 | whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave; even as the Son of man came not to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many. |
Mat. 23: 11 - 12 | He who is greatest among you shall be your servant; whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. |
Mark 9: 35 | If anyone would be first, he must be the last of all and servant of all |
Mark 10: 43 - 44 | whoever would be great among you must be your servant, whoever would be first among you must be slave to all |
Mat 5: 34 - 37 | Do not swear at all ... let what you say be simply yes or no; anything more than this comes from evil. |
sabbath
Mark 2: 27 - 28 | The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath; so the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath |
faith
Mark 9: 23 | All things are possible to him who believes |
Mark 11: 24 | whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you will receive it, and you will |
